Gal 5:24 Circumcise and Crucify Yourself  © 2016 WF Cobb Truthbase.net DailyTruthbase.Blogspot.com

I. Our responsibility: to believe the Truth of God's Spirit as we crucify temporal desires & are victorious over sin by His grace

Gal 5:24 those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions/afflictions/sufferings and desires

1Pt 2:11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts/desires/cravings which war against the soul

Rm 8:5  those who live acc to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live acc to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.  6:6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. Rm 8:13 For if you live acc to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.  14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.     Eph 6:17 take...the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

Rm 6:11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. 13 And do not present/yield your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14 sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under (the power of) law but under (the power of) grace

II. Developing a sensitivity to God's objective and subjective will is a prerequisite to loving and obeying and being blessed by Him

Dt 10:16 circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff-necked/stubborn no longer.  30:6 And the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live.

Jer 4:4 Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your hearts...inhabitants of Jerusalem, lest My fury come forth like fire, and burn so that no one can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.     [be sure to read the entire context of Dt 10 & 30]

Acts 7:51 You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you.

III. Living by faith in what God has revealed (past and promised) enables us to abide in Christ's power and pleasures

Gal 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith (gen=sourced) in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Gal 6:14 God forbid..boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world

Lk 9:23 If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. 24 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. 25 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?

Gal 3:1 O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified?  2 This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?

2Cor 13:4 He was crucified in weakness, yet He lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in Him, but we shall live with Him by the power of God toward you.   Cf  Eph 1:9 (know) the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead

Heb 12:3 For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. 4 You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin.

Heb 11:24 By faith (v6) Moses 25 choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, 26 esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward(cf Nehemiah -remember me)

Col 3:1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.

2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden (in union with) Christ in God.

4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, 7 in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.

8 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.  Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds,

10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in/by knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,

Questions for Reflection/Discussion/Response:

1. What role does fearing God and consequences have in conquering the flesh and living happily every after?

2. How can we change our values so that we desire pleasing God above all else?  What role do faith and grace and the HS play?

3. How can we crucify our  desires for temporal power (security-significance), pleasure, and possessions? What are we afraid of?

4. Where in your daily life do you take the time to listen to God, reflect on your life, and renew your thinking with Truth? When will you?

5. How have you crucified your flesh? If it's dead, why does it keep resurrecting, or are you digging it up instead of walking with Christ?
