Given to a redeemed people: how to live in fellowship with God and each other/in community; manual of discipleship summed up by love

See Truthbase.net for sermons:  Leviticus Themes: Holy Sacrifices and Sanctification; and (Day of) Atonement, Blessings, Cursing

A Ch 1-7 Laws of the Sacrifices (cf a' Ch 23-25 Laws of Feasts)  B 8-10 Laws of the Priests (cf b' 21-22)
C Ch 11-15 The Laws of Purity (cf c' Ch 17-20 Laws of Holiness) D Ch 16 The Laws of the Day of Atonement (D/d' = 16:15b-20a)
Ch 26-27 The Consequences of Obedience/Disobedience and Laws of Dedication. 1Pt 1:14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct 16  it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy."

I. A Relationship with God Must Be on His Terms (Death is the way to life)   APP Is your worship pagan or Biblical?

God Desires Us To Be Holy/Distinct in Our Worship, Communal Interactions, Personal Lives  19:3 be holy for I YHWH your God am holy

A. God Specifies Worship: animal, type, condition, attitude, place, method  3:17 perpetual...eat neither fat nor blood. Cx Dt 32:19

B. Sacrifice (in faithful obedience) Brings Forgiveness and Blessing 6:13 fire be ever burning upon the altar; it shall never go out.

4:28 (become aware of unintentional) sin...bring his offering w/o blemish 31 make an atonement for him, and it shall be forgiven him 8:21 wash the inwards, the legs in water; and Moses burnt the whole ram upon the altar: (whole burnt offering {dedication} not eaten

C. Obedience Reveals God in Glory  9:23 Moses and Aaron went into the tabernacle of the congregation, and came out, and blessed the people: and the glory of the LORD appeared to all the people. 24 there came out a fire from before the LORD, and consumed upon the altar the burnt offering and the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their faces.

D. Disobedience Reveals God in Judgment 10:1 Nadab and Abihu...offered strange fire 2...fire from the LORD devoured them

II. Holiness is a Hassle, the Alternative is Horrible (death/cut off/loss of freedom/loss of blessing) APP r u Holy? Howso?

A. Holiness is Being Separate or Distinct  10:10 make a difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean;

B. Holiness is Our Responsibility 11:44 I am YHWH your God: you shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and you shall be holy; for I am holy

C. Lack of Holiness Requires Death (Yom Kippur – Day of Atonement) 16:5 of congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering. 8 And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat. 21 And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness:  Sin requires death 17:11 the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life.

D. Holiness Extends to Every Area of Our Lives 18:3 doings of Egypt, where dwelt, don't do: doings of the land of Canaan, don't do  walk in their ways. 5 you shall keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man does, he shall live in/by them: I am Yahweh

18:22  shall not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.  24 Don't defile yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: 29...the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people.

19:2 Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say to them, You shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy. 3 You shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my Sabbaths: 4 Turn not to idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods

19:17 not hate brother in you heart: you shall surely rebuke your neighbor, and not allow sin upon him. 18 You shall not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shal. love your neighbor as yourself 19:32 shall rise up before the gray headed, and honor the presence of the old man, fear your God: I LORD.  19:33 And if a stranger shall sojourn with thee in your land, you shall not oppress him. 34 But the stranger that dwells with you shall be to you as one born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

20:4 And if the people of the land do any ways hide their eyes from the man, when he gives of his seed to Moloch, and kill him not: 5 Then I will set my face against that man, and against his family, and will cut him off, and all that go astray after him, to commit harlotry with Moloch, from among their people 7 Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be holy: for I am the LORD your God. 8 And you shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am the LORD who sanctifies you. 9 For every one that curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death

APP: What sacrifices do you offer to God? Self being daily transformed  (Rm 12:1-2); sharing praise/truth, stuff/life Heb 13:15 By him, continually offer  the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.16 But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

III. Take Your Pick: Blessings or Cursings (cf Dt 29) APP  Choose wisely (forever is a long time) Have you decided? When? How's?

A. Smart Choice 26:3 If you walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them; 9 confirm cov/t (bless) 11 I will set My tabernacle among you, and My soul shall not abhor you. 12 I will walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people.

B. Stupid Choice 26:14 But if you will not hearken to me, and will not do all these commandments; 15 And if you shall despise my statutes, or if your soul shall abhor my judgments, so that you will not do all my commandments, but you break my covenant: 16 I also will do this to you; I will even appoint over you terror  19 break pride of your power 20 spend strength in vain  21 7x plagues 24 punish 7x 26 no satisfaction  27 If you still won`t for all this obey/listen to me, but walk contrary to me; 28 then I will walk contrary to you in wrath/fury; and I also will chastise you seven times for your sins. 29 eat the flesh of sons and daughters....

33 I will scatter you among the nations...sword after you: and your land shall be desolate 35 because it did not rest in your Sabbaths 44 And yet for all that, when they shall be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am YHWH their God. 45 But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God: I am the LORD.
