Col 1 Pleasing the God of Grace  © 2015 WF Cobb Truthbase.net DailyTruthbase.Blogspot.com

IV. How to Get More Grace    2Pt 3:18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
A. Ask Heb 4:12 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need
B. Humbly depend upon God Js 4:6 more grace...God resists the proud, gives grace to the humble. 7 Submit...Resist...Cleanse 1Pt 5:5
C. Know God 2Pt 1:2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you thru knowledge of God...power given to us called to glory & virtue

D. Perceive it by means of the truth Col 1:6 ...heard...and knew/perceived the grace of God in/by (ev) {the} truth
Col 1:2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ 3 We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, 4 since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of your love for all the saints;
5 because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in/by the word of the truth of the gospel,
6 which has come to you, as it has also in all the world, and is bringing forth fruit,

as it is also among you since the day you heard and knew/perceived  the grace of God in/by truth;  7 as you also learned from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on your behalf, 8 who also declared to us your love in the Spirit.

E. Do God's Will Col 4:12 Epaphras, who is one of you, a bondservant of Christ, greets you, always laboring fervently for you in prayers, that you may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.  13 For I bear him witness that he has a great zeal for you...

Col 1:9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled/controlled with the knowledge of His will in/by all wisdom (right objectives) and spiritual understanding (make the connections);

10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the epi-knowledge of God;
11 strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power/(grace 2Cor 12:9), for all patience/endurance and longsuffering with joy;
12 giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.

1Jn 3:22 whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

F. Walk in the Light 13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness  and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,
14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. Cf 1Jn 1:7-9  if we walk in light...have fellowship

Acts 26:16 purpose...18  to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God,
that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.'

Eph 1:7 In Him we have redemption thru His blood, the forgiveness of sins, acc to the riches of His grace 8 which He made to abound toward us in/by all wisdom and prudence, 11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance...15 Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16 prayers: 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the/a spirit of wisdom and revelation in/by the epi-knowledge of Him, 18 (the eyes of your understanding having been enlightened); that you may know what is the hope of His calling...inheritance in the saints...19...His power toward us who believe...

G. Don't do what Displeases God  1Cor 10:5 But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. 6 Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not desire/lust after evil things as they also lusted.

2Cor 5:9 Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, acc to what he has done, whether good or bad. Lk 12

Rm 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

2Tim 2:4 No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.

H. Be Righteous (do what is right in His sight) and Godly (knowing and doing all God requires)
Titus1:1 Paul, a servant..apostle of Jesus Christ, with a view to the faith of God’s chosen ones/elect, and their experiential knowledge of the truth which leads to godliness (NIV), 2 based upon hope of eternal life, which God, who can’t lie, promised before time began; 3 but in his own time revealed his word in the message with which I was entrusted acc to the commandment of God our Savior;
Heb 11:5 By faith Enoch...pleased God. 13:16 do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

Heb 13:21 make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, thru Jesus Christ,

Mt 12:18 My Servant..My Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased! I will put My Spirit upon Him & He will declare justice to the Gentiles

Questions for Reflection/Discussion/Response:
1. What is God's purpose in saving believers? Does it stop at forgiveness? How do justification/sanctification/glorification differ?
2. Is there anything we can do to influence (merit or deserve) the grace that we get/receive? Can we fail to get it or receive it in vain?
3. How does a believer get sanctified and an inheritance/reward? Jn 8:32; 17:17; Rm  12:1-2; 1Pt 1:22; Col 3:24; 1Cor 3:14-15
4. Is God very pleased with you? Why or why not? Does He want to be pleased with you? Do you want to be pleasing to Him? Problem?
5. What can you consistently do to daily draw upon God's grace so that you can give Him what He wants (and you should want)?
