III. Wisdom the principal means of safety, happiness, prosperity/success, satisfaction (purpose), + doing the will of God (Eph 5)

God wants us to get/have/use wisdom for this life and the next. It enables us to look at life from God's perspective, to enter into His thots

Pr 3:13 Happy is the man who finds wisdom and the man who gets understanding.   Pr 19:8 He who gets wisdom loves himself.  

8:32 happy are those who keep my way...watching daily at my gates,  For he who finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord; but he who misses me injures himself; all who hate me love death. 

Pr 24:13 eat honey..good..sweet 14 so is wisdom to your soul; if you find it; there will be a future, and your hope will not be cut off

A. Pr 22:4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches and honor and life.

Pr 16:16 To get wisdom is better than gold; to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.

Ps 119:127 I love Your commands more than fine gold! 128 Thus I consider right all Your precepts re: all things ; I hate every false way

B. Pr 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Pr 9:10  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

Ps 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do His commandments:

Ps 112:1 Blessed is the man that fears the LORD, that delights greatly in his commandments.

Ecc 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

C. Solomon's Methodology Ecc 7:25 I applied/directed my heart to know, to search/spy/explore and seek/find out wisdom and the scheme/reason/explanation of things, To understand  the stupidity of wickedness, and madness of folly. (9:3 The hearts of men are full of evil and madness) 7:27 Here is what I have found, adding one thing to the other to find out the reason

D. The Purpose of Proverbs 1:2 To know/Gen 3:5 wisdom and instruction/correction; to perceive/biyn the words of understanding/bin;  

3  To receive/take hold of the instruction/correction of wisdom/insight/comprehension/success/sakal-hiph/acting prudently: righteousness and judgment/justice, and equity/uprightness; 

4 To give/grant/bestow prudence/subtlety cardinal virtue/Gen 3:1  to the simple, to the young man knowledge/Gen 2:17 tree and discretion/purpose 5 A wise man will hear and increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel, 

6 To understand a proverb and an enigma, the words of the wise and their riddle

Pr 1:4 Prudence ormah/06175; phronimos/5429  The perfected ability to discern the appropriate course of action (foresight/sagacity). Mother/charioteer of all virtues {Cardinal=justice, temperance, courage}  Essential Elements (must be present for a complete or perfect act): 

Memoria: accurate memory; that is, memory that is true to reality; an ability to learn from experience;[6]

  • Docilita: an open-mindedness that recognizes variety and is able to seek and make use of the experience and authority of others;[6]
  • Intelligentia: the understanding of first principles; {progress from what is clear-known to us to what is clear in nature – {unclear to us}
  • Sollertia: shrewdness or quick-wittedness, i.e. the ability to evaluate a situation quickly;
  • Ratio: Discursive reasoning (complex to simple) and the ability to research and compare alternatives;
  • Providentia: foresight– i.e. the capacity to estimate whether particular actions can realize goals;

The Talmud teaches that a wise person is a person who can foresee the future. Nolad is a Hebrew word for "future," but also the Hebrew word for birth, so one rabbinic interpretation of the teaching is that a wise person is one who can foresee the consequences of his/her choices (i.e. can "see the future" that he/she "gives birth" to).[70] 

  • Circumspection: the ability to take all relevant circumstances into account;

Pr 8:5 simple: understand/b prudence; fools: be of an understanding heart 12  I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and acquire knowledge &  discretion

Pr 14:8 The wisdom of the prudent 06175 is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.  

Pr 22:3  A prudent 06175 man foresees the evil, and hides himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

Pr 15:5  A fool despises his father’s instruction: but he that regards reproof is prudent aran/06191 same root

Mt10:16 Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise/phronimos 5429 as serpents and innocent as doves.
