Seats in Heaven

1994-02-01 Ephesians 2:6b-7

Ephesians 2:6b-7 "Have a Seat"

6 And hath raised [us] up together, and made [us] sit together in heavenly [places] in Christ Jesus: 7 That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in [his] kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

{Our Story Thus Far: God's grand plan to display His glory in blessing believers reverses the effects of the Fall (through the salvation process of: justification, sanctification, glorification) so that we can be formed into a temple/body which His glory can inhabit. The same power demonstrated in Christ is available to save believers who are in union with Him.}

Sitting is equated with the reward or ruling with Christ Lu 22:30 That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Lu 12:37 Blessed [are] those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say to you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to eat, and will come forth and serve them.

Sitting is a future blessing in the kingdom Mt 19:28 And Jesus said to them, Verily I say to you, That ye who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit on the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Mt 20:21 And he said to her, What wilt thou? She saith to him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.

Sitting can not occur apart from our union with Christ

Sitting is not equal Mr 10:37 They said to him, Grant to us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory.

Sitting occurs after working Heb 10:12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; Heb 1:3...when he had by himself made purification of our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

Sitting is for overcomers Re 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me on my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father on his throne.

Sitting is to be our future hope, not present possession Col 3:1 If ye then were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, [who is] our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. 5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; immorality, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

Well-meaning but nevertheless inaccurate "theologians" have considered sitting to be a present "positional" experience for believers because they fail to grasp the timeless aspect of the Greek aorist tense.

Heb 1:13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thy enemies thy footstool?
