The Lord Jesus

The Lord Jesus

Hebrews 1:2b-3  Jesus  BC 3/98

{Our Story thus far: The author of Hebrews demonstrates the superiority of Christ over Judaism to

Hebrew Christians (as well as the consequences of not pressing on to maturity), so they won’t be succumb to the temptation to go back to the way they were, but will make every effort to victoriously follow after Christ in faith, hope and love. The author begins in Chapter 1: demonstrating that Christ is superior to the OT law and angels, being the Final Revelation and Future Ruler of the world to come.}

Q1. In what ways are you tempted to go back to/remain the “way you were”? What will help you go forward?

I. Jesus Owns It All, Doubly, Being Both Creator And Heir (Possessions)

A. 2b ...Son, whom he has appointed heir of all things,

Eph 1:10  That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things

in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him

B. 2c by whom also he made the worlds;

Col 1:16  For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

Q2. If Jesus owns it all, why would we seek anything apart from Him?

II. Jesus Is Incomparable In Beauty (Pleasure)

A. 3a  Who being the brightness of his glory,

B. 3b and the express image of his person,

Col 1:15  Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

Q3. If Jesus could be our highest pleasure, why would we seek delight in inferior things?

III. Jesus Has All Power, Past, Present And Future

A. Present  3c and upholding all things by the word of his power,

Col 1:17  And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Q4. If Jesus’ Word causes our universe to hold together, why would we act as if it has no bearing on our daily life?

B. Past 3d when he had by himself purged/made cleansing for our sins,

Q5. If Jesus has cleansed us from sin, why would we continue to play in the mud?

1. Our responsibility 2Co 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Jas 4:8  Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

2. Wash with Word Eph 5:26  That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

3. Remember 2Pe 1:9  But he that lacks these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and has forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

4. Walk in the light 1Jo 1:7  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.

5. Confess (name it and claim it) 1Jo 1:9  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

C.  Future 3e sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high

Q6. If Jesus reaped His reward after He died, why do we want ours now, even at the expense of our future?

Q7. In what ways do the above aspects of Jesus make a difference in the way you live?
