I. Those believers rightly related to Christ (careful to do what is right in His sight): abide/remain, triumph, bear fruit, and experience life and peace. Justified by belief/faith believers never go into the lake of fire Rev 20:15, but unsanctified carnal faithless believers suffer loss.  
God gives the promise of inheritance/reward/eternal life, but we can lose it by failing to abide (branch Jn 15) and maintain it 1Jn 3:15

Dt 30:15 I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, 19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; cf 20; 32:47
Dan 12:2 many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt Isa 66:24
Heb 11:6 w/o faith it is impossible to please Him...comes to God must believe He is, & a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

II. God's redeemed & forgiven people (NT audience), who fail to please Him w/ radical obedience: Perish Acts 5:5, get Discipline Heb 12,
Loss 1Cor 3:15 If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss 2210; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. Cf Lk 15:24,32!!
Destruction Lk 9:25 what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed 622 or cast away/lost 2210?
Disappproval/Judged 1Cor 9:27 Ti 1:16 They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being...disobedient, and disqualified...

1Cor 10:4...For they (all) drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. 5 But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. 6 Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted.9 nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents 11, and they were written for our admonition 12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

Rm 2:5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6 who "will payback to each one according to his deeds" Ps 62:12; Pr 24:12 7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and incorruption; 8 but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness - indignation and wrath, 9 tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek; 10 but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good 13 (for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified; 16 in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.  Rm 14:10,12 Bema account; 2Cor 5:10; Mt 12:36; 1Pt 4:5; Heb 4:13

III. Life and Eternal Life are given to those who believe in Christ and the latter is maintained by those who intimately abide in Him.
Jn 4:14 But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life." NB Process
36 And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.
5:21 For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will.
39 search the Scriptures..,think you have eternal life...testify of Me 40 But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.
6:27 Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you
40  the will of Him who sent Me, everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day

6:47 he who believes in Me has everlasting life. 48 I am the bread of life. 53 unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.  63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. 68 You have the words of eternal life.
10:27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish...
11:25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.

12:25 He who loves his life will lose 622 it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor
46 come as a light into the world, whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness. 50 I know that His command is everlasting life.
15:5 "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit... 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. (cf Mt 7:19; 1Cor 3:15)
17:2 as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. (Mt 7:23 “I never knew you”)
*1Jn 3:15 Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
1Jn 5:11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12...has the Son, has life...cf 2:23
1Jn 5:13 you who believe in the name of the Son of God,  may know that you have eternal life, may [continue to] believe in the name of the Son

Questions for Reflection/Discussion/Response:
1. Who was the audience of Jesus? How were OT Jews saved?  Who were the recipients of the NT writings? (belief in Day of Atonement)
2. Does God judge His people//believers Heb 10:30? What is the outcome of that judgment for those who are unfaithful carnal disobedient? 2Cor 5
3. Are those who love Jesus loyal. obedient and fruitful Jn 14:15; 15:5,10?  What's the fate of those who seek to please themselves rather than God?
4. Why do people misunderstand: gospel, grace, salvation, righteousness, justification, rewards, inheritance, kingdom, heaven, hell, The Age?
5. How do you know you are doing what is right/pleasing in God's sight? Are you certain that your eternity will be happily ever after?
