I. OT Old Covenant

Heb 9:19 Ex 24:3 Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD and all the judgments. And all the people answered with one voice "All the words which the LORD has said we will do." 4 Moses wrote all the words of the LORD. 7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read in the hearing of the people. And they said, "All that the LORD has said we will do, and be obedient." 8 Moses took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said, "This is the blood of the covenant which the LORD has made with you acc to all these words."

Isa 59:20 "A Redeemer will come to Zion, and to those who turn from disobedience in Jacob," says Yahweh. 21 "As for me, this is my covenant with them," says Yahweh. "My Spirit who is on you, and my words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart 2Cor 3:3

II. OT New Covenant

Ezk 36:24  I will take you from among the nations... and bring you into your own land. 25 Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart? and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you Isa 63:11 and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them. 28 Then you shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; you shall be My people, and I will be your God 31 then you will remember and you will loathe yourselves for your iniquities and abominations...   cf Ex 24:3-8 "All that the LORD has said we will do, and be obedient."

III. NT Participation

Acts (1:8) 2:16...prophet Joel 17 'in the last days, says God,  I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy...33 promised... 38  Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins;  you shall receive the gift of the HS. 5:32 witnesses...the HS whom God has given to those who obey Him."  Eph 4:30 Grieve HS  1Thess 5:2+ Quench HS

Acts (8:14) 10:42 He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead. 43 To Him all the prophets witness that, thru His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins." 44 While Peter was still speaking, the HS fell upon all those who heard the word. 47...received the HS just as we have?" 15:8,2819:6

IV. Getting the HS  

A. NT Apostles Jn 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments, 16 and I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Counselor/Encourager, that He may abide with you forever 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive...but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. 16:7 if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. 8 And when He has come, He will a) convict the world of sin, and of b) righteousness, and of c) judgment: 9 of a) sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 of b) righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; 11 of c) judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. 12 "I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, whatever He hears He will speak; He will tell you things to come. Eph 3:5  Jn 6:63 words Spirit & life cf 3:6

1Cor:2:9 not seen....things which God has prepared for those who love Him. 10 But God has revealed them to us thru His Spirit. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been graciously given to us by God. 13 These things we also speak, not in words which man's  wisdom teaches but which the HS teaches, interpreting spiritual (things) to spiritual (men). 14 But the natural man doesn't receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. 16 For "who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?" But we have the mind of Christ.

B. NT Believers Eph 1:7 In Him we have redemption thru His blood, the forgiveness of sins, acc to the riches of His grace 13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the HS of promise, 14 who is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.     
1Cor 12:7 common good 13 by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body...and have all been made to drink into one Spirit  1Cor 10       
1Cor 3:1 And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ.
2Cor 3:3  you epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not w/ ink but by the Spirit of living God, not on stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the ?.

Rm 8:13 if you live acc to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 16 witness. Mt 3:17 Beloved Son Mt 4:1 led by the Spirit (to triumph over the desires of the flesh)
Col 3:4 glory 5 put to death the earthly parts of your body Gal 5:24 Christ's crucified flesh 6 wrath.. children of disobedience  9 Put off 10 put on... be renewed

Col 1:10 filled with the knowledge of His will by all spiritual wisdom and understanding,that you may walk worthily of the Lord, to please him...

2. How could God expect the OT believers to obey, and judge/punish them for failing to do so, if they didn't have the HS in them?
3. What could you do to draw more on (exercise more faith in) God's grace and power to live a life that reflects Christ's character and glory?
