Ps 5 Biblical Worship Responds to Revelation © 2015 WF Cobb Truthbase.net DailyTruthbase.Blogspot.com To the Chief Musician. With flutes. A Psalm of David.
I. Biblical Worship requires sacrifice to purposefully direct prayer to our Lord/King/God and watch to see how He answers.
1 Give ear to my words, O LORD, Consider/understand my meditation 39:3
2 Give heed to the voice of my cry, My King and my God, For to You I will pray. Cf 141:2
3 My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD; In the morning I will direct (array sacrifice) it to You, and I will look out/watch/spy. Hab 2:1
II. Biblical Worship gives us God's Perspective on life and ourselves (mindful of His Personality, Preferences and Practices)
4 For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness*, Nor shall evil dwell cx 15:1 with You. (*Mal 3:16-18 don't fear and serve God!!!!)
5 The boastful/foolish shall not stand 1:1.5; 2:2 in Your sight; You hate all workers of iniquity. Mt 7:23
6 You shall destroy those who speak falsehood; The LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man. 16 But to the wicked God says: " What right have you to declare My statutes, Or take My covenant in your Ps 50:16 But to the wicked God says: "What right have you to declare My statutes, or take My covenant in your mouth, 17 Seeing you hate instruction and cast My words behind you? 18 When you saw a thief, you consented with him, and have been a partaker with adulterers. 19 You give your mouth to evil, and your tongue frames deceit. 20 You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your own mother's son. 21...you thought that I was like you; But I will rebuke you, and set them in order before your eyes. 22 Now consider this, you who forget God
Pr 6:12 A troublemaker and wicked, who goes about with a corrupt/perverse mouth, 14 who plots evil with deceit in his heart— he always stirs up conflict/discord. 15 Therefore disaster will overtake him in an instant he will suddenly be destroyed without remedy. 16 There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable/abominaton to Him: 17 haughty eyes, lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a false witnesswho pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community. Cf Zec 8:17
Workers of iniquity “06466 & 0205” are foolish 5:5; ignorant 53:4; 36:12 rebellious 64:2; deceitful 28:3; enemies of God 92:9; temp flourish but destroyed by God Job 31:3; 92:7,9 Pr 10:29; 21:15; 101:8 cut off from blessing 1Pt 3:10 inherit a blessing. 10 "He who would love life and see good days, refrain tongue from evil, lips from speaking deceit. 11 turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. 12 eyes LORD are on the righteous, ears are open to their prayers; face of the LORD is against those who do evil."
III. Biblical Worship protects and guides the steps of the righteous in the way of righteousness cf Josh 6:24; 1Sam 1:9; 3:3 7 But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy; In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple.
8 Lead/guide 23:3 me, O LORD, in Your righteousness because of my enemies/ambushers; Make Your way straight before my face.
Ps 32:8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. 9 Do not be like the horse or the mule, no understanding...bit and bridle, Else they will not come near you. 10 Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; But he who trusts in the LORD, hesed shall surround him 11 Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous; And shout for joy, all you upright in heart!
IV. Biblical Worship gives God's discernment and desire for the just destruction of the bad guys 9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; Their inward part is destruction; Their throat is an open tomb; They flatter with their tongue.
10 Pronounce them guilty, O God! Let them fall by their own counsels; Cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions/revolts, For they have rebelled against You.
V. Biblical Worship results in joy and blessing for those who trust righteously
11 But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them;
Let those also who love Your name be joyful in You.
12 For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him as with a shield.
Questions for Reflection/Discussion/Response: 1. Do your prayers tend to be haphazard yelps for help, or prioritized, purposeful, reasoned communication with God? 2. Do you like what God likes & abhor what God abhors? List some things He likes/dislikes? How does that compare with your desires/actions? 3. How does God guide you in His way? Look up the 133 occurances of “way” #01870 and synthesize your “Philosophy of God's Way”. 4. For what are you trusting God? What prayers are you looking for Him to answer?
