Read; Reflect (implications for applications); Respond (worship=response to Revelation in thoughts words and deeds); Record (take doggie bag) 2Tim 3:16-17 Doctrine/Teaching = Path: What God’s revealed re: what He’s like, we’re like, and what we should expect of Him, and what He expects of us (relationship); Reproof = Where off Path; Correction = How to get back on Path; Training = How to stay on Path (motivation) 1 <<To the Chief Musician. With flutes. A Psalm of David.>> Give ear to my words, O LORD, Consider my meditation. 2 Give heed to the voice of my cry, My King and my God, For to You I will pray. Path: We can talk to Our Heavenly Father, He listens, He considers what we’re thinking, He’s our King and God, godly people pray. Off/On/Stay: if we’re not praying, or acknowledging Him as King, we need to pray to Him and think about how He wants to be involved w/ us Response: I praise you Father that you are accessible, you listen to me, you are concerned about me. Thank you for wanting a relationship with me, and that I can pray to you throughout the day. You are my King and God, I will be loyal to you, obey and follow you. 3 My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD; In the morning I will direct it to You, And I will look up. (watchman observing) Path: We should pray in the morning (ToDo list), and, like a watchman or spy, observe God’s answers throughout the day Response: My God, you are worthy of the first and best of my time and strength. I pray you’ll show yourself strong on my behalf today. 4 For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness, Nor shall evil dwell with You. Path: God is a person who can be pleased or displeased. He dwells/lives/abides with those who are righteous. He excludes the evil. Response: My God, thank you for revealing yourself so clearly in your Word, so I can know what you expect. Thank you for dwelling not only in heaven but also intimately in my heart (Isa 57:15). I pray you would take pleasure in me, and I in what pleases you. 5 The boastful shall not stand in Your sight; You hate all workers of iniquity. 6 You shall destroy those who speak falsehood; The LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man. Path: God doesn’t tolerate, but hates, and will destroy the proud, the troublemakers, the liars, violent, and hypocritical deceivers. Response: Father, I praise you for being holy and just. I pray you’ll point out to me when I’m being displeasing and help me change. 7 But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy; In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple. Path: God wants us to worship with others. He is merciful (forgiving), yet to be feared. He is one of a kind (holy), different from all other gods (sources of power/pleasure/possessions) revealed by His answers to prayer (for which people praised Him in the temple). Response: Wow God, I praise you for your mercy which makes coming before you possible. I thank you for sending Jesus to die for my sins, (so I didn’t have to), so I can have a relationship with you. Thanks for forgiving me, I really don’t deserve it, I am unworthy. Yet, you are worthy, worth everything good I could do or say. Help me acknowledge how worthy you are of my unreserved heart, mind and soul obedience, in my thoughts, words, and actions; not just for today, but in my dreams and plans for the future. Help me never take you for granted, but remind me that you are to be feared, and a God who judges and disciplines sin in His people. 8 Lead me, O LORD, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; Make Your way straight before my face. Path: God leads those who follow. He clearly reveals His will to the wise so they can do it. His path for us is right and perfect. Response: Oh Lord, you are my Shepherd. Lead me; guide me; correct me; protect me. Unite my heart so it is focused on pleasing you. Make clear the next steps I should take, so I can do it. Don’t let Satan or others distract me from following your perfect path. 9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; Their inward part is destruction; Their throat is an open tomb; They flatter with their tongue. 10 Pronounce them guilty, O God! Let them fall by their own counsels; Cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions, For they have rebelled against You. Path: God will trouble those who trouble us. God will withdraw his fellowship from the unfaithful, guilty, transgressors and unprofitable servants. Those who rebel against Christ’s lordship will say evil against those faithful to Him, but reap just consequences. Response: Lord, I know you said that if people mistreated you, they will mistreat us when we follow you. You’ve called us to follow in your footsteps, sometimes suffering for the will of God. Help me be strong. Help me be dependent. Pour out your powerful grace upon me so I can be like you, blessing those who curse me and praying for those who persecute me. Give me wisdom so I don’t suffer stupidly for my own sin. Keep me mindful of the rewards you promised your disciples if they were faithful to you even when it hurt. 11 But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You. Path: God wants us to trust that He knows best, and rejoice. God fights our battles if we let Him. We have a choice to trust and love. Response: Oh my God, you are so trustworthy. You are infinitely good, and I’d be a fool not to trust your goodness. You only want what’s best for me, when its best, so, I can trust you. Fight my battles for me today. Keep me loyally loving you. Help me choose what’s best so I can have joy regardless of the circumstances. You are my God. Alleluia. 12 For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield. Path: God reveals Himself as the One who blesses those in a position to be blessed. He wants to overwhelm us with His favor/grace. Response: Wow Lord, its so cool that you want to bless me. Help me always be blessable and to desire your blessing above all. Amen. |
