Jude 11d Korah: Rebellion Against God's Authority Num16 Pt 1
Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah I. Ungodly leaders/believers neither know nor obey God, serving self rather than the Savior and His Body (cf Eph 4) Num 16:1 Now Korah 3x son of Levi,...Reuben, took men; 2 rose up before Moses with 250 leaders of the congregation, representatives of the congregation, men of renown. 3 gathered together against Moses and Aaron, and said to them, "You take too much upon yourselves, for all the congregation is holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them. Why then do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the LORD?" Ex 19:5 If you will obey my voice, and keep my covenant...6 You shall be to me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. Num 14:41 transgress...not succeed 42 defeated...LORD is not among you 43 'cse you have turned away from LORD, LORD will not be with you APP: Rebellion is really cx God thru pride due to lack of self-worth (thru submission), resulting in loss of worth and life/dominion 1Jn 3:22 whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing/right in His sight. II. Rebellion and lies (esp false accusations) are signs of satanic influence/enslavement as are persistent unsanctified values Acts 7:51 you stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you. Calf Ex 32:28 sons of Levi did acc word of Moses...3k fell 29...bestow one is you a blessing, for every one has opposed his son and brother Dt 33:9 Nor acknowledge his brothers, or his own children; observed Your word & kept Your covenant. 10 teach...incense...sacrifice on Your altar. Fire Lev 10:1 N&A sons of Aaron put fire in it, put incense on it, and offered profane fire before the LORD, contrary to His command NIV. 2 fire went out from the LORD and devoured them 3 By those who come near Me I must be regarded as holy; and before all the people I must be glorified Quail Num 11:10 Moses heard the people weep...anger of the LORD was kindled greatly; Moses also was displeased 11 Why afflict thy servant? not found favor in thy sight? lay the burden of all this people upon me? 14 not able to bear all this people..too heavy for me. 15 kill me, if I have found favor Miriam Num 12:2 Has LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? also by us? 3 Moses was very meek, above all men upon the face of the earth Kadesh Num 14:40 we have sinned!"41 transgress...not succeed 42 LORD is not among you. 43 Because turned LORD not be with you 44 they presumed APP Satan uses the discontented/bitter and ungodly (no worth and value from obeying God), to rebel cx godly lordship and defile many Heb 12:15 looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many be defiled III. Sacrificial servant leadership is forged thru: Aspiration, Preparation/Qualification, Authentication (vs subjective “calling/anointing” OT vs NT vs post-apostolic/appointment cf Eph 4) Sacrifice time, energy, self, career, candle vs call Moses didn't set himself up as leader, God did (cf Acts 20; 1Pt 5 Heb 13 1Pt 3 Titus 1 HS matures). God is not “among/abiding” He sought God's glory (reputation if destroy at Sinai or KB) and the blessing for the Israelites “protecting” them from God's just wrath 3x Question: How can one discern if a leader or believer/oneself is oversteppng the boundary of God's will? (cf Scripture and motives) IV. God fights battles for His faithful servants Ps 41:11 know God pleased with me because enemy does not triumph over me...uphold in integrity Failure to be grateful for what God has done (will do) for you (pre & post Christ) and thru others, results in discontentment with the present 4 So when Moses heard it, he fell on his face; 5 "Tomorrow morning the LORD will show who is His and who is holy, and will cause him to come near to Him. That one whom He chooses He will cause to come near to Him. 6 Take censers, Korah and all your company; 7 put fire in them and put incense in them before the LORD tomorrow, and it shall be that the man whom the LORD chooses is the holy one. (cf disciples) You take too much upon yourselves, you sons of Levi!" 8 Then Moses said to Korah, "Hear now, you sons of Levi: 9 Is it a small thing to you that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to Himself, to do the work of the tabernacle of the LORD, and to stand before the congregation to serve them; 10 and that He has brought you near to Himself, you and all your brethren, the sons of Levi, with you? And are you seeking the priesthood also? 11 Therefore you and all your company are gathered together against the LORD. And what is Aaron that you complain against him?" APP: Determine that your worth and value come from pleasing God (esp via obedience -Jn 14:21 has+obey) and serving others Our job is to aspire/perspire for service rather than status (like Jesus=Mk 10) Beware that you're not working/motivated cx the Lord V. Rebels rewrite history with lies, blaming others leaders for their own sins/failures/state rather than taking individual responsibility 12 Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, "We will not come up! 13 Is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, that you should keep acting like a prince over us? 14 Also you have not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards. Will you put out the eyes of these men? We will not come up!" APP: Hangover from (KB): unrepented sin darkens understanding, opening us up to more sin and serving satan's purposes rather than God's VI. Anger is a just response to demonic sin/rebellion but one's first response must be to seek the Lord and His will |
