2Tim 2 Disciple Soldiers and Satan's Slaves
2:1 You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.  2 And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

How to be Strong 2Tim 1:13 Hold fast the form/pattern of sound words, which you have heard from me, in/by faith and love which is in Christ

2:3 You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. 5 And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. 6 The hardworking farmer must be first to partake of the crops.
7 Consider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in all things.

2:8 Remember that Jesus Messiah, of the seed of David, was raised from the dead according to my gospel, (cf 1Cor 15)
9 for which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even to the point of chains; but the word of God is not chained.
10 Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect,
that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. (Justification/Sanctification/Glorification)

2:11 This is a faithful saying:
A. For if we died with Him, We shall also live with Him. (+justificaton)Rm 3:22-26; 6:2-7
12 B. If we endure, We shall also reign with Him.  (+glorification) Rm 8:16-18
b'  If we deny Him, He also will deny us.           (-glorification) Mt 10:32-41
13 a'  If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself. (-justificaton)

11A. Died-Live  A. For if we died with Him, We shall also live with Him.(+justificaton)
Rm 3:22-26 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,
Rm 6:2-8 baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?  8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him

12B. Endure-Reign  B. If we endure, We shall also reign with Him. (+glorification)    Rm 8:16 heirs of God BUT co-heirs with Christ,
co-suffer with Him,  co-glorified together. 18  sufferings...compared to the glory which shall be revealed in us  (must see 1Pt 1 for “revelation”)
Lk 21:19 endurance ; Heb 10:35-38 reward. 36 endurance...promised 38 the just shall live by faith Mt 7:13, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul. Heb 12:1; Js 1:3,12 Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. Js 5:11 We count those blessed who endured.
See Survey of Rewards in OT and NT on Truthbase.net  IV. B. p 14 truthbase.net/fileadmin/TOYL/Rewards_in_OT_and_NT_summary.pdf

12b' Deny-Deny  b'  If we deny Him, He also will deny us. (-glorification) Mt 10:32-42  (Lk 9:25 ashamed cf Dan 12:2) 41... receive reward Col 3:23 reward of the inheritance Mk 8:33-38; Lk 12:8-10;  1Cor 3:10-14 work endures, he will receive a reward. 15 work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. Rm 2:5-10 render to each one according to his deeds": Ps 62:12; Pr 24:12

13a' Faithless-Faithful a'  If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself. (-justificaton) 2Tim 1:9 saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not acc to our works, but acc to his own purpose and grace,  Eph 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, acc to the riches of His grace In Him 11 inheritance, 13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation--having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, Rm 8:38 For I am convinced that neither...39...nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God... Jn 10:9 "I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture 10...they may have life, and have it abundantly  28 I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.
1Jn 5:11...God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.
Rev 22:3  And there shall be no more curse Zech 14:11, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. (OT High Priest cf Ezk 44-Zadok)  12 "And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render/give to every one according to his work. Cf Rm 2  14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. 15 But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.
17 And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.

2:14 Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers.
15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
16 But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. 17 And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, 18 who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faithof some. 19 Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal:  "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity." 20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. 21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.Eph 2:10; 2Tim 3:1722 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.1Pt 1:22
1Tim 6:11-14  flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life,

2:23 But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife.
24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient,
25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth,
26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

Questions for Reflection/Discussion/Response:
1. How does one be strong in grace? What keeps folks from loving others with the truth? (Hint: Learn, Live, Love) What motivates you to endure?
2. Why do we need to be saved? On what basis does God forgive our sins? What happens when we are born again? Benefits?
3. Why are there so few reproductive disciplemakers? What happens if someone doesn't follow Christ wholeheartedly all their days?
4. How do believers become enslaved by sin (Rm 6) or Satan? What is the Scriptural corrective to enslavement?
5. Do your daily actions deny the Lordship of Jesus? Are you sure you'll be in heaven reigning with Christ? Have you added 2Pt 1:5-11?
