1Cor 15 Good News: You're Going to be Resurrected, & Rewarded IF...

Observation; Interpretation (What does it mean? Why writing it?); Application (What want them to do? Why did Holy Spirit include in NT?)

Mt 4:17 Jesus began to preach: Repent, for  kingdom of heaven is at hand 23 Jesus went teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom. Lk 4:18 "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor/humble; sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD...(vengeance/beauty)"

Acts 26:17 “I now send you, 18 to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.” 20:32 Act 18:1 Paul departed from Athens to Corinth 4 He reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath and persuaded both Jews and Greeks 6 They opposed him and blasphemed...go to the Gentiles 8 many of the Corinthians, hearing, believed and were baptized.11 continued 18 months, teaching the word of God among them 13 "This fellow persuades men to worship God contrary to the law." 1Cor 1:2 To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints 4 thanks for grace given 7 eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord JC 8 who will also confirm Col 2:7 you to the end, that you may be blameless 1Thess 3:13 5:23 in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into fellowship of His Son, JC our Lord

A. v1-11 Believers experience full salvation, fellowship with the Lord and consequent reward, attained by using grace to hold fast to the end
A1. 1-2 Brethren v50 58, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, 2 by which also you are being saved (j/s/g), IF you hold fast ship that word which I preached to you --- unless you believed in vain Gal 4:11
A2.. 3-11 The Reason gar Believers should hold fast the Word and experience their salvation is because God Word always comes true.
A2a. 3-4 Message  Christ died for our sins acc to the Scriptures 4 buried, and that He rose again the third day acc to the Scriptures
A2b. 5-10 Authenticating Messengers 10 by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I
labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
A2c. 11 The Result of the authenticated message of Christ's resurrection is that...  Therefore...so we preach and so you believed.

B. 12-34 The Result {of promises or} holding fast the Word is that our faith produces holy living and our future hope in the kingdom
B1. 12-19 Faithful believers have forgiveness of sins and hope for the future. 12 No resurrection of the dead? 17 if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile/vain; you are still in your sins 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.
1Pt 1:3  His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope thru the resurrection of Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled, not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time

B2. 20-28  Manner of  believers' hope is the resurrection of His faithful saints to participate in the future kingdom  Lk 22:30 Ti 2:13 3:7
20 Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 in Christ all shall be made alive: 23 Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ's at His coming. 24 kingdom

B3. 29-34 The Manner of those who are Christ's is that they die to self and live lives of holy righteous service   Lk 14:14
B3a. 29 Otherwise,,,they do who are baptized for the dead, if the dead do not rise at all? Why then are they baptized for the dead?
Rm 6:4 Therefore we were buried with Him thru baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life 5 if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection 6 knowing that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin
B3b. 30 And why do we stand in jeopardy every hour? 31 I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily 32 fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantage is it to me? If the dead do not rise: Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!
B3c. 33 Do not be deceived: 'Evil company corrupts good morals.' 34 Awake to righteousness, and stop sinning; for some do not have the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame. 1Cor 3:10-15 2Cor 5:7-11

C. 35-49 The Result of holy righteous temporal service is sharing imperishable yet differential eternal glory in Christ Rm 8:17
35 "How are the dead raised up? And with what body do they come?" 40 the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. 41There is one glory of the sun, another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differs from another star in glory. 43 It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. 49 bear the image of the heavenly Man. Rm 8:29  foreknow, predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, firstborn among many brethren

D.  50-58 The Result of the hope of differential glory is that faithful believers should live victorious rewardable lives of laboring for the Lord
D1. 50 Now brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption.
6:9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of  God? Do not be deceived 10...not inherit the kingdom of God

D2. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory." 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
D3. 58 ∑ brethren v1, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

X. 1-58 Means by which Believers reap blameless fellowship w/ the Lord and consequent reward, is by using grace to hold fast the Word and serve

Questions for Reflection/Discussion/Response:

  1. Why are some Scriptures easy to understand and others difficult to interpret?  What happens if someone doesn't do Bible Study?
  2. What  significance does the resurrection of believers have for daily life on this planet? Do others you know believe this? Why/why not?
  3. How do you hold fast the message (steer the ship against the headwind) when everyone else seems to just go with the flow?
  4. Are you ever tempted to think your labor in the Lord is in vain? Why would you think that? What keeps you on track?
  5. What labor can you point to in your life that demonstrates you're steadfastly believing and always abounding in serving God?
