Growing with Jesus and Paul © 2022 WF Cobb Truthbase.net DailyTruthbase.blog I . How do your goals reflect your submission to God's will, and how determined are you to do all for which He created you? A. Jesus submitted to the Father's will as the purpose of His life, daily keeping it in the forefront of His thinking until done Lk 2:40 The Child continued to grow and become strong mid, increasing in wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him. 47 (12yo) And all who heard Him were amazed at His understanding and His answers. 49 know ye not that I must be about my Father’s business? (1st words) 50 But they did not understand the statement which He had made to them. 51 And He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and He continued in subjection to them 52 And Jesus kept increasing/advancing* in wisdom and stature, and in favor/grace/credit with God and man *to actively and continuously (impft active) advance by cutting forward or hammering out [see Paul in Gal 1:14 below] Pr 1:5 A wise man will hear and increase in learning, and a man of understanding will acquire/buy wise counsel (humility) Pr 9:9 Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser, teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning. Mk 1:35 In the early morning...praying there 38...go elsewhere...so that I may preach there also; for that is what I came for. Jn 4:34 Jesus said to them: My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish (telios subj) His work B. Paul Acts 26:19 I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision 20 they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds...appropriate to repentance Gal 1:14 and I was advancing* in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries being more extremely zealous for my ancestral traditions. 15 But when God, who had set me apart even from my mother's womb and called me thru His grace... Acts 9:15 Lord said to Ananias, "Go, for he is a chosen instrument of Mine, to bear My name before the Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel; 16 for I will show him how much he must suffer for My name's sake." cf Eph 2:10; Ps 139 Acts 20:23 Holy Spirit solemnly testifies to me in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions await me. 24 "But I do not consider my life of any account as dear to myself, so that I may finish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God. APP: How are you submitted to and doing the Father's business? What results? How pleased is God with you? How can you grow wiser? II. Submission (with willingness to suffer) is the key to success: Jesus models submission (not my will but Thine be done) to the Father's will in emptying Himself of His glory to become a human servant Phil 2. He didn't stop being God, but walked this earth as a human in complete dependence upon the HS and the Father's grace/power to suffer to do the Father's will. A. Jesus Heb 5:8 tho He was a Son, He learned obedience from things which He suffered. Isa 50:4 He awakens My ear to listen as a disciple 5 GOD has opened My ear; and I was not disobedient/rebellious nor did I turn back 6...I did not cover My face from humiliation and spitting. 7 For GOD helps Me, thus, I am not disgraced; thus, I have set My face like flint, not be ashamed Heb 2:10 fitting... in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the Author of their salvation thru sufferings. That means He is the perfect model/example/pioneer of our salvation, Whom we must imitate and follow. 1Pt 2:19 this finds favor/grace, if for the sake of conscience toward God a person endures sorrows when suffering unjustly. 20 when you do what is right and suffer for it, you patiently endure it, this finds favor/glory with God. 21 For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps...entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; 24 bore our sins...on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness Jn 14:12 who believes in Me, the works I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; cz I go to the Father Lam 3:19 Remember my affliction (soul bows down in dispair) 21 This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. 22 The LORD's hesed indeed never ceases, for His compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. 24 "LORD is my portion/inheritance/award" says my soul, "Therefore I have hope in Him." 25 The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the person who seeks Him. 26 It is good that he waits silently for the salvation of the LORD. 27 It is good for a man that he should bear the yoke in his youth. 32 For if He causes grief, then He will have compassion acc to His abundant hesed. APP: On what is your mind focused? In what do you hope; what does that look like? How do you seek and wait on God? B. Paul 2Tim 3:10 Now you followed# my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, perseverance, 11 persecutions, sufferings...what persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord rescued me! 12 Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. 13 But evil men and impostors^ will proceed* from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 You, however, continue/abide in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you learned them, 15...known sacred writings which are thru faith in Christ #follow up thing in mind to attain to the knowledge of it, understand (trace its course); to examine thoroughly, investigate: Thayersable to give you wisdom that leads to salvation ^cheap impostor, looking for self-gain, i.e. posing to be someone they aren't WHelps APP: How do you imitate Jesus? What do you deny/ endure? How adequate is your wisdom/knowledge to secure your salvation? C. The S-Word: Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God* (Truthbase.net 10/2006) I. Submission is willingly yielding your rights and preferences for the goal God-glorifying unity IV. Submission is: 1) Christlike, 2) designed by God for our benefit, 3) in the grey areas Lk 2:51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them... A. Submit 40x 5293 ????????? under+arrange *Eph 5:21 A Greek military term meaning "to arrange [troop divisions] in a military fashion under the command of a leader". In non-military use, it was "a voluntary attitude of giving in, cooperating, assuming responsibility, and carrying a burden". B. Obey 14x 21x 5218 ??????? hupakoe under+listen (as a servant Eph 6:5) 1) obedience, compliance, submission 2) obedience rendered to anyone’s counsels Rm 1:5, 16:26 obedience to the faith 1Pt 1:22 Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart, C. Be Persuaded# 55x 3982 ????? peitho 2a) to suffer one’s self to be persuaded; 2b) to listen to, obey, yield to, comply with 3) to trust, have confidence, be confident Heb 13:17 Obey# passive them that have the rule over you (cf 13:7 spoke word of God), and submit^ active yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you. [Not Persuaded 545 = disobedient Acts 26:19 P not to vison, Rm 1:30 truth suppressors, 2Tim 3:2] D. Submit/Yield^ 5226 ??????? hupeiko eiko (to yield, be "weak"); AV-submit (one’s) self 1;1) to resist no longer, but to give way, yield (of combatants) 2) metaph. to yield to authority and admonition, to submit E. Have and Guard/Keep Commands 75x 5083 ????? tereo 1) to attend to carefully, take care of 1a) to guard 1b) metaph. to keep, one in the state in which Jn 14:21 He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him." 1Jn 3:22 whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight. II. Lack of Submission opens us up to Demonic Attack (Independence is the essence of sin) Js 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. V. Submission requires trust that God is: Good, Sovereign, Almighty, Wise, Just Judge, and a Rewarder (fear) VI. Submission requires: 1) yieldedness to God and embracing of His will, 2) intelligence 3) humility: a) transparency=willingness to be seen as I am with nothing to hide; b) good self-image=lack of the need to validate or prove my worth via the temporal; c) flexibility=writing our own agenda in pencil; d) preferring & honoring others=having affirmation from God so I can pass some along to others. Rm 8:7 carnal mind is hostile to God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be III. Exactly how will your life bring God glory? Will you finish/complete the works He prepared in advance for you to do? 1Chron 28:20 David to Solomon: Be strong and courageous, and act; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you until all the work for the service of the house of the LORD is finished A. Jesus Jn 17:4 I glorified You on earth, having accomplished the work which You gave Me to do. 5 Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory I had with You before the world was. 6...You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word 7 come to know that everything You have given Me is from You; 8 for the words which You gave Me I gave them Jn 15:2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. Mt 28:18 All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Going therefore and make disciples...baptizing them in the name 20 teaching them to observe/obey all that I commanded you; and I am with you always, even to end of the age APP: What fruit do you bear acc to God's intent? What do you do that contributes to God's glory? How can you be more fruitful? B. Paul: 2Tim 4:7 I have fought good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; 8 laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; also to all who have loved His appearing Phil 3:8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is thru faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith Phil 3:10 [AMPC My determined purpose is] that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,11 if, by any means, I may attain to the ek-resurrection from the dead. Phil 3:12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 2Cor 5:9 Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, acc to what he has done, whether good or bad. 11 Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men 1Cor 9:24...Run in such a way that you may obtain/win. 25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified. APP: What is your purpose/aim in life? How is that reflected in your daily denial? What helps/hinders? Are you well-pleasing to God? IV.
