Fear or Desire Num 13:27 "Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it." 31 "We are not able to go up 1Cor 10:5 But with most of them God was not well pleased, 6 examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they

Since satan is stronger than we are, do we just give up? Anything worthy will face opposition as we swim against satan's stream to the sewer

When we focus on the obstacles they get larger; when we focus on the opportunity to draw on God's grace, we see Him as larger.

Fear vs Desire  2Tim 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind/understanding.

Josh 1:8 meditate in it day and night, observe to do acc to all...then you will make your way prosperous success. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go."

If God commands, He provides 2Cor 9:8 God is able to make all grace abound toward you...always having all sufficiency in all things

Und God's purposes 1Thess 5:23 God...sanctify you completely; whole spirit, soul,  body be blameless  24 He is faithful, who also will do it.

Num 14:3 Why has the LORD brought us to this land to die, NOT! 8 If the LORD delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us,  9 Only do not rebel against the LORD, nor fear the people of the land...the LORD is with us. Do not fear them."

Rejecting God's purposes for our life (praise thru victory over renewal, relationships and responsibility) is rejecting Him in unbelief.

David's Giant killing tips: develop a track record of trust/dependence upon God; get skills; be most concerned for the glory of God

Renewal  Sanctify (make holy; get act together – 'cs we've changed our perspective (identity; purpose; soul: mind, will/values, emotions)

Rm 12 how we think of ourselves (identity) & life determines what we do +/- ; Jn 8 Truth set free 17 sanctify w/ Truth;  walk in wisdom/love

2Cor 5:17 if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; all things have pft become new. 20 be reconciled

We have to believe that we can be different from our old ways before we can be renewed.  Any doubts will probably also come true.

Dt 10:16 circumcise heart, and be stiff-necked no longer 30:6...to love LORD  all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live

1Pt 1:22 purified your souls by obeying the truth thru the Spirit eis sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart

Victory when: 1. You know the Truth and it has set you free from sin Jn 8; you no longer do, nor desire to do what displeases God, and instead want to please Him 2Cor 5:9-10, because your mind and values are daily being renewed and reinforced with His Truth, so you are daily delighting in the Person of God and faithfully trusting Him to bring about His perfect will as you daily present sacrifice yourself  Rm 12

2. You recognize that your life is not your own. You've been bought/redeemed; 1Cor 6:19 temple HS (march w/-Gal 5:25,  and you are not your own? 20 you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

3. You've crucified your temporal desires; Gal 5:24 those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

and daily serve your Lord Rm 12. You are submitted to God's HS and draw on grace, power and word to detect and refute the schemes of the devil Js 4:4-10, so the chains of old habits and thinking are broken, and you now bear fruit for God and eternal life. Rm 6:22; 7:4

APP: How do I view myself? What gets me excited? What do I value? What do I love? Carnal or spiritual? Why do I want/do what I want/do?  Have I sought God's perspective or help? How? Am I holding back a part of/for myself? What if God took it away from me? How would I respond Job? To whom does all belong? How willing am I to let go my ambitions, directions, goals, rlshps, things/stuff?

Relationships: Love as He loves us; others first (JOY) Unity=intent on one purpose Phil 2; Easily entreated; Submit to one another in fear of God Eph 5

Jn 15:12 My commandment is that you love one another as I have loved you.  1Jn 4:21 he who loves God must love his brother also.

1Cor 1:10 all speak the same thing, no divisions, perfectly joined together in  same mind & judgment   Col 4:3 unity of HS en bond of peace.

Rm 12:9 love w/o hypocrisy cf 1Pt 1:22. Abhor what is evil. Be glued to what is good. 10 Be philostorgos to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; 11 not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord;  1Pt 4:10 minister grace

APP: How do my relationships edify me/others? Do they please God or satan? What drives my rlshps: pleasing God or fear, or pleasing myself? How do I serve grace to others? Do I need to seek forgiveness or reconcile with someone? Do I need to humble myself?

Victory when: 1.You've purified your heart so you selflessly serve others and the Body in love, speaking the Truth in love, desiring and sacrificing your interests for what's in their best interest, giving/sharing what reproves and edifies and encourages others to pursue God.

2. You love God and His approval more than pleasing others, and both know needs/objectives and seek what is in their best interest,

3. You are part of His Body, fellowshipping and sharing yourself and resources with like-minded saints as you unite under Christ's lordship to seek and do God's will and bring Him glory in the church and your spheres of influence.

Responsibility Fulfill your purpose -eternal glorification of Christ, the Lord of Glory now and at Bema thru faithful love and service

Mt 4:19 Follow Me, I will make you fishers of men  28:19 Make disciples (immerse in name/power; teach to obey) 2Tim 2:2 entrust

APP: Ask myself - how did I do? What did I do to please God today? Do I feel guilty? Is my conscience clear? Identify mistakes, ask forgiveness and come up with a plan to change what I/God don't like.  How have I helped others be successful and God's Truth spread?

Victory when: 1. The purpose of your life is eternal, and your actions Biblical, being a good steward of all God has entrusted to you for the benefit of others and the eternal glory of them, yourself, and God. You purposefully seek first His kingdom and righteousness.

2. You've equipped yourself to function within a Biblical Body of spiritual warriors to finish the race/war in unity as you seek to win and train the lost, making reproductive disciples, teaching them all the Lord Jesus commanded. Mt 28  No faltering nor turning back.

Most Giants are only giants b/c we choose to see them that way or we don’t want to address it so we make up excuses for not having to tackle what God wants us to tackle. God wants us to be sanctified/ purified in all areas

(Jas 4:8 God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble. 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

 - so we might as well arm ourselves with that Truth and be ready to change what is impure to clean our any doublemindedness (opposite of wholehearted)

I think folks focus on the negative or how hard it will be and quit WAY too easily.  The key is that you have to be doing this (fighting smaller giants) regularly.  As you can see, David’s track record fighting bears and lions with God’s help was a foundation for his ability to see an even bigger Giant in stride.  No big deal because God will help me tackle it (even if you don’t see exactly how - that’s where faith comes in!).

I’m not sure if folks short circuit in not having smaller victories to inform bigger giants or just don’t want to exert the energy to tackle the stuff - like how the Israelites consistently failed to drive out the nations fully…LAZY = lack of fear of God - not wholehearted in obedience to FINISH the task….drive out the nations/ impurities.  Either way it’s lack of faith = sin.

David then had the courage to tell Goliath to his face that he was no big deal next to God’s armies helping him.  He approaches the problem from a spiritual perspective/ God’s glory and perspective, not fleshly:

The other big thing I think that holds folks back is honest spiritual examination/ evaluation of their own half hearted motives: I’ve seen over the years that folks who examine themselves honestly before the Word (which is the tool that cuts between the thoughts and intents of the heart -Heb 4:12) grow.  The temptation, however, seems to be to evaluate yourself in your own eyes first (pride) and then see if you think any Scripture applies to that (that’s not letting the floodlight of Truth shine in all areas but taking your flashlight to expose just the areas you want).  Since we can be so deceived about our own motivations, that’s really not useful and damaging.

The Word is what should examine us and we should be wholeheartedly committed to allowing that to shine wherever - and actually help us to see our true motives. I think more often than not, we use fleshly/nonspiritual evaluation models that just seek to defend our current perspective.  Evaluation before the Word requires humility and fear of the Lord and doesn’t try to “justify” an unbiblical position - if you’re wrong, you’re wrong - accept it, change and move on and all in newness of life.  If you feel like you want to hide an area from God, you’re probably hiding it from being exposed to Truth = halfhearted evaluation/obedience.

David was able to confidently call on God to judge between them - spiritual perspective.  Saul was just evaluating what’s around him – flesh.

You can’t fool God and His Word will expose what’s wrong.  If you don’t know what’s wrong, then I will say that you don’t want to know or aren’t listening or aren’t willing to do what it says.
