Jewish Roots of the Resurrection Pt 3 Miraculous Results© 2018 WF Cobb Truthbase.net DailyTruthbase.blogspot I. Miracles Authenticate the Message of the Messiah in delivering the faithful from the consequences of the Fall (body & soul) Isa 61:1 (Lk 4) The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, because the LORD has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the eyes/prison to those who are bound/blind; 2 to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD – and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn, 3 to console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified. 4 rebuild the old ruins...repair the ruined cities... Acts 3:9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God. 10 Then they knew that it was he who sat begging alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. 11 Now as the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch which is called Solomon's, greatly amazed. 12 So when Peter saw it, he responded to the people: "Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this? Or why look so intently at us, as tho by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? 313 The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let Him go. 14 But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, 15 and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses. 16 And His name, thru faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which comes thru Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. 17 "Yet now, brethren, I know that you did it in ignorance, as did also your rulers.
*Miracles can be counterfeited Mt 24:24 false christs and false prophets will show great signs and wonders to deceive 2Thess 2:9 II. The Message of the Messiah includes prophesied redemption; repentance & reformation, and times of refreshment and restoration 3:18 those things which God foretold by the mouth of all His prophets, that the Christ/Messiah would suffer, He has thus fulfilled. (Isa 53) 19 (2Cor 7:10 sorrow leads to?) Repent therefore and be converted (turn around), that your sins may be blotted/(crossed) out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, Dt 30:1-3; Jer 15:19; Mt 19:28 20 and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, 21 whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began. Acts 1:6 restore kingdom to Israel? *God has a wise plan for the Israel to call on Him and be saved (believe, obey, be blessed), and He always keeps His promises Rm 11:19 You will say, "Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in." 20 Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be haughty, but fear. 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either. 22 Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off. 23 if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. 29 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. 30 For as you were once disobedient to God, yet have now obtained mercy through their disobedience, 31these also have now been disobedient, that thru the mercy shown you they also may obtain mercy. III. Reception of the Messiah and His Message result in Blessings; Rejection results in Reprobation (pres/fut loss, slavery to sin) 3:22 For Moses truly said to the fathers, 'The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you. 23 And it shall be that every soul who will not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed (cut off) from among the people. (and the covenant/community blessings cf Lev 23:29 cut off )' 24 Yes, and all the prophets, from Samuel and those who follow, as many as have spoken, have also foretold these days. Dt 18:15-19 25 You are sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, (Gen 12) 'And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.' (Gen 12) 26 To you first, God, having raised up His Servant Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your iniquitieS." *Virtue is not only its own reward, but God has purposed that holiness is the basis for fellowship and eternal reward as well 1Pt 1 Zech 12:8 In that Day the Lord will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem... 9 It shall be in that Day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. 10 And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son 13:1 In that Day a fountain shall be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness. 1Jn 1:7 if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ/Messiah His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Questions for Reflection/Discussion/Response: 1. Does God still have a plan to “refresh” His chosen people, the Jews? Why did He single out Abraham? (see Rms 9-11) 2. Is it a sin to remain ignorant? Why is it that some people don't have ears to hear? What role does satan have in ppl being ignorant? 3. How's your holiness? How are you different from a worldling? How are you continuing in His goodness? 4. From what has God saved you? Of what has He healed you? Do others know about it in such a way that God is glorified? |
