23 but/de others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh. V. We must save others by understanding needs and using God's process and (positive & negative) motivations for Sanctification LIE: I can please God w/o striving to be Christlike and I can become Christlike w/o reprogramming my responses and values/actions to be like His 1Cor 3:15 If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. A. TRUTH: Fear of God is essential for sanctification, godliness, pleasing God and walking in wisdom (wishing otherwise is to be a fool) A1. Them fearing consequences=using fear of God and His promised consequences/penalties as a motivator (as Jude does in vv5-15) Jude 5 remind you...knew...the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe Pr 14:27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. Pr 16:6 By hesed/mercy and truth/faithfulness iniquity is purged/atoned for and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil. Pr 14:16 A wise man fears, and departs from evil: but the fool rages, and is confident (wise in own eyes). Pr 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. 2Co 7:1 Having these promises, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God A2. Us fearing God - 2Cor 5:9 please God...10 we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, acc to what he has done, whether good or bad. 11 Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men A3. Us fearing defilement – hating the garment lest we be contaminated and disqualified for worship (hate the sin but love the sinner) Heb 1:9 loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness...companions Rev 2:6 But this thou hast, that thou hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. Cf 1Cor 5:9 no company; 2Thess 3:14-15 B. Understanding needs requires HS guided other-centered empathetic observation of needs- tendencies, as well as evidence for reproof To help/save someone, must 1st discern needs or from what one needs to be saved; Other centeredness observes and listens and earns a hearing. God's love (meeting our needs) frees us from self absorption, so we're free to love and serve others, cf DTB Js1:25 2:12 royal law of liberty Immaturity, disease; weak, undeveloped faith +/or immune system, bad: diet, values/habits, environmental influences/companions 1Cor 15:33 Do not be deceived: "Evil company corrupts good habits" 34 Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; no knowledge of God...ur shame Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and incurably/desperately wicked; Who can know it? 10 I, the LORD, search/investigate the heart, I test/try Ps 11 the mind 139:23, to give every man acc to his ways/conduct, acc to the fruit of his doings/deeds deserve C. Fellowship saves by both example and edification which reinforces good and admonishes wrong direction and wrongheadedness Heb 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised) 24 And let us consider one another to provoke to love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some; but exhorting/encouraging one another: and so much the more, as you see The Day approaching. 26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But a sure fearful expectation of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. 28 He that despised/disregarded Moses’ law died without mercy 29 Of how much severe punishment, do you suppose...worthy, who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and has done despite to the Spirit of grace? 30 Vengeance belongs to me, I will recompense, says the Lord. And again, the Lord shall judge His people. 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Eph 4:14 no longer be (demonically influenced) children 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head--Christ--16 from whom the whole body (functioning)... causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love. Cf 1:4 blameless D. Wisdom from above easily entreated /not stubborn vs demonic self-seeking yielding exchanging time to know and do God's will Eph 5:8 you are light... walk in light 11 have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. 13 all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light 14 "Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light." 15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not be drunk...dissipation; but be filled with HS Js 3:13 Wise and understand?...works done in the meekness of wisdom. 14 envy and self-seeking in your hearts...cx truth. 15 earthly, sensual, demonic. 16 envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. 17 wisdom from above is first pure, peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, w/o partiality, hypocrisy. 18 fruit of righteousness is sown in peace... 2Thess 1:8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that do not know God, and on those that don't obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9 Who shall be punished with the destruction of The Age away from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power; 10 When He shall come to be glorified in His saints, and to be admired in all them that believe...in That Day. 11...count you worthy calling Js 5:8 You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. 9 Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door! 10 take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering affliction and persevering endurance/patience. 11 Indeed we count them blessed who endure 16 The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous person avails much. 19 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of their way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins. |
