I. Holiness is Required to Worship and Walk with in Relationship with God(holy=separate/distinct) Lev 19:2 Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘You shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy 1Pt 1:15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy." Holy/Separate: so it can be seen that God is blessing His people, therefore we need to identify with Christ and follow thru so He can bless us.
II. Sin Requires Specified Sacrifice300x:Whole burnt/Grain/Peace/Sin/Trespass; Sin 115x; Holy 80x; Atonement 50x; Bk 40x in NT 4:27 unintentionally…guilty 5:16 he shall make restitution for the harm that he has done in regard to the holy thing, and shall add 1/5 to it and give it to the priest. So the priest shall make atonement for him with the unblemished ram of the trespass offering, and it shall be forgiven him
17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul 14…blood sustains its life Whoever eats it shall be cut off 7:23 you shall not eat fat. Heb 9:22
9:23…the glory of the LORD appeared to all the people, 24 and fire came out from before the LORD and consumed the burnt offering 10:1 Nadab and Abihu, (Ex 24:9) the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, put incense on it, and offered profane fire before the LORD, which He had not commanded them. 2 So fire went out from the LORD and devoured them, and they died before the LORD. 10:10 10:3 By those who come near Me I must be regarded as holy; And before all the people I must be glorified. So Aaron held his peace.
Yom Kippur 16:21 Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, confess over it all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions, concerning all their sins, putting them on the head of the goat, and shall send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a suitable man.
Heb 10:1 the law, a shadow of the good things to come… can never with these same sacrifices, offer continually, make those who approach perfect. 4…it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins 13:15 by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. 16 do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. Questions for Reflection/Discussion/Response:1. Why does God want His people to avoid certain practices? Does He want to limit our fun or increase our blessings? 2. Do folks tend to err on being too worldly or too sanctified? Can a person be so unworldly that they are unprofitable servants? [in/of] 3. Why does God reject “worship” that isn’t according to the book? If your heart is in the right place isn’t that all that matters? 4. Why are some more concerned with speculative typology than the weightier matters of Biblical holiness, love, worship & service? 5. Do you have a choice about how you behave this week? Are you setting yourself up for God-glorifying blessing or self-inflicted cursing? |
