Psalm 8  Praise Your Creator God Who Cares for You

© 2017 WF Cobb Truthbase.net DailyTruthbase.blogspot

A. 1 O LORD, our Lord, how excellent/majestic  is your name in all the earth,

Which 2k give/grant/employ impv/request,  your glory above the heavens! (Gen 1:1; cx earth)

God =Creator; Lord of glory; for whom nothing is too difficult  Ps 19:1 heavens declare His glory

Name=representation of character, purpose, power (name of law, order-consequences) and glory

as seen in wise works in lovingly and loyally caring for His creation and creatures (cx evil cf Ps 7&9)

Rm 11:36 For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.

Ps 59:16 But I will sing of your (experienced name=) power; Yes, I will sing aloud of your hesed* in the morning;

for You have been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble.        *covenant loyalty

17 To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises; for God is my defense, My God of hesed

APP: Do you know God as more than an name? How do you experience the wonders of His person and power every day?

B. 2 Out of the mouth of children and nursing infants You have established/ordained strength/might/praise LXX

Reason=Because of your enemies,

Purpose=That You may silence/cease Hiphil causative the enemy and the avenger.

Means=How does that work/happen?

Man: Created with purpose, in the image of God, to praise God (not nature)  and to exercise dominion/glory.

Designed to thwart the plans of evil/satan by our dependent faith-ful calls for help/salvation “Hosanna!”  and steadfast praise/trust.

Hosanna = save us!   Made to have dominion, yet sin and circumstances often rule over us cx Gen 3&4

All things to serve us, so we can serve Him, but we often fail to see the link between His provision and our purpose and praise.

APP: God's got a purpose to glorify Himself by responding to our calls for help, so that we'd regain and exercise dominion over all; His plan to accomplish that purpose is to put our faith in His goodness (character) and promises to the test thru trials.

[Satan's got a purpose to blind us to glory, and a plan to panic us into not knowing and relying on God's provision and protection.]

See Ps 57:3 Send from the heaven (H&T) and save me 5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let your glory be above all the earth.

7 My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise.

3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, polel int'l

        9k 300B 7.5x 120k-ly 100B 93B-ly Ps 147:4

C. 4 What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You care for/visit him?

        Mt 10:30 hairs of head numbered

C' 5 For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor.

Heb 2:8 not see it yet

b' 6 You have made Hiphil  him to have dominion over the works of your hands; You have put all things under his feet,

7 All sheep and oxen --- Even the beasts of the field,

8 The birds of the air, and the fish of the sea That pass thru the paths of the seas.

If the all wise God numbers and names each star, as well as the hairs of my head, why do they fall out, and I hate my life sometimes?

Job 7:17 "What is man, that You should exalt him, that You should set your heart on him,

18 that You should visit him every morning, and test him every moment?

Rlshp between the two:\1Pt 5:6Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,

7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. 11 To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

PP: God cares for us, we need to be honest about our cares/concerns. Hiding them gives them power over us, exposing them to the light by voicing them reduces their influence over us as we become aware of God's protection and corrective. Cf Gideon ambush

We can steadfastly trust our Creator and Sustainer to fulfill His plan and promises, and thus call to Him and praise Him every day.

c' 9 O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is your name in all the earth (and my daily life)!

Bogus Interpretation: This expresses, doubtless, part of the thought of the poet, that in a child’s simple and innocent wonder lies the truest worship; that God accomplishes the greatest things and reveals His glory by means of the weakest instruments—a thought which was seized upon by our Lord to condemn the want of spirituality in the scribes and Pharisees. But the context, speaking the language of war, seems to demand the primitive meaning, stronghold or defense. The truth which the Bible proclaims of the innate divinity of man, his essential likeness to God, is the principal subject of the poet; and in the princely heart of innocence of an unspoilt child he sees, as Wordsworth saw, its confirmation. “Trailing clouds of glory do we come, From God who is our home.” Such a proof is strong even against the noisy clamor of apostate men, who rebel against the Divine government, and lay upon God the blame of their aberration from His order. “His merry babbling mouth provides a defense of the Creator against all the calumnies of the foe” (Ewald). Others think rather of the faculty of speech, and the wonder and glory of it.

Psalms 57:1 Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; and in the shadow of your wings I will make my refuge, until these calamities have passed by. 2 I will cry out to God Most High, to God who performs all things for me. 3 He shall send from heaven and save me; He reproaches the one who would swallow me up. Selah God shall send forth His hesed and His truth.

4 My soul is among lions; I lie among the sons of men who are set on fire, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword. 5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let your glory be above all the earth.
