1997-05-01 | Proverbs 1:31 |
Satisfaction is the consequence of the right causes {Sow-Reap} I. We are filled:A. with our ways 1:31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. 14:14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself. 13:25 The righteous eats to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want. B. with our work 12:11 He that tills his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that follows vainity is void of understanding. 28:19 He that tills his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that follows after vain persons shall have poverty enough. 20:13 Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open your eyes, and thou shall be satisfied with bread. C. with our wealth use 3:9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: 10 So shall your barns be filled with plenty, and your presses shall burst out with new wine. D. with our word usage 12:14 man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him 18:20 A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. II. WarningsA. Need can be a bottomless pit 27:20 Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied. 30:15 The horseleach has two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, It is enough: 16 The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that says not, It is enough. B. Lack of need can make us insensitive to God 30:9 Lest I be full, and deny you, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain. C. Need keeps us under control 30:22 For a servant when he reigns; and a fool when he is filled with meat; D. Self control needs to guide our need satisfying 25:16 Have thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for you, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it. 25:17 Withdraw your foot from your neighbor’s house; lest he be weary of you, and so hate you. Questions for Reflection/Discussion/Response:1. Is satisfaction an attainable goal? If you’re not satisfied are you discontent? What causes sense of satisfaction? 2. How do we most often attempt to fill our needs. T or F: You have to be needy to have a relationship with God. 3. How can your eyes never be satisfied, but your belly full? What’s the difference between need and desire? 4. Which of the “W’s” in #I. have the greatest impact on your sense of satisfaction? Does that change? 5. To which of the warnings do we need to pay special attention? How will you do that? |
