Gal 5:16-25 Walk By The Spirit  © 2016 WF Cobb Truthbase.net DailyTruthbase.Blogspot.com

I. Purposefully setting our minds on the Spirit's Truth gives us victory over the flesh, and results in God's blessing

Gal 5:16 I say then: Walk in/with the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Lk 4:1 Jesus, full of the HS...was led by the Spirit into the wilderness

25 If we live in/by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with/ walk/march 4748 in/by the Spirit.

4748 stoicheo 1) to proceed in a row as the march of a soldier, go in order; 2) to walk 2a) to direct one’s life, to live

Gal 6:16  And as many as walk/march <4748> acc to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.

Acts 21:24  you yourself also walk orderly and keep the law. <4748>, and keep the law.

Rm 4:12...but who also waalk <4748> in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.

Php 3:16 Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk <4748> by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.

Php 2:12 always obeyed...work out your own salvation 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

Ezk 36:26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.

II. Following God's Objective will for our lives enables us to understand and experience His perfect subjective will (Rm 12:1-2)

Rm 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk acc to the flesh, but acc to the Spirit.  4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk acc to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

5 For those who live acc to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live acc to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit

6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons (heirs) of God.

Pr 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean/rely/depend not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil.

Ps 23:2 (Shepherd) leads me beside the still waters.  Isa 30:21 Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it,"

Ps 32:8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. 9 Do not be mule..no understanding 10 Many sorrows shall be to the wicked Ps 50; who trusts in the LORD, hesed/covenantal loyalty shall surround him.

Ps 27:8 When You said, "Seek My face," my heart said to You, "Your face, LORD, I will seek."

III. The HS guides us into experiencing God's perfect will for our lives as we deny ourselves and yield to obey His Word daily

Rm 12:1 present/yield your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may experience what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

TOYL Will of God: Word (commands, principles, examples); Input; Logic (Life plan; Obey Grt Com; Grow; Incr Glory; Christlike) Leading of HS

Acts 13:2 As they ministered (Anna Lk 2:37) to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said...15:28 For it seemed good to the HS, and to us

Lk 9:51 Now it came to pass, when the time had come for Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem,

Isa 50:7 Lord GOD will help Me; therefore I will not be disgraced; therefore I have set My face like a flint, and I know that I will not be ashamed.

IV. The alternative to walking by the Spirit in following Christ to glory is to follow the devil to death and destruction

Eph 2:2 once walked acc to the course of this world, acc to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,

1Tim 4:1 the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron    5:15 some already turned aside after Satan

2Tim 2:26 and may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

Jude 1:19 sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit

2Thess 2:10  unrighteous deception among perishing, bec they did not accept/embrace the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness 13... salvation thru sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth 14 to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle.

Questions for Reflection/Discussion/Response:

1. How can we know if something is the “leading of the HS” or Satan's snare, or just our own fleshly desires? Does it please God?

2. How would you characterize/describe God's will for your life vs Satan's will for your death? Why wouldn't you always choose God's will?

3. How do you “do  everything to the glory of God” 1Cor 10:31 (note chapter context)?  What decisions have you taken thru the Will of God funnel?

4. If you were to walk by the Spirit (guided by His Word in all you do), would your life look any different? How so? How can you change?

5. Do you mainly serve your desires or God's desires? Why? What can you do to know and do God's will throughout each day?
