Easter 2020 - John 5  Christ's Resurrection and Yours

©2020 WF Cobb Truthbase.net DailyTruthbase.blogspot

 I. What will happen to us in the future? Where do we get our information about the future?

Jn 5:28...for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forth ---

those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.

Rev 20:5 rest of the dead did not live again until the 1000 years were finished. This is the 1st resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the 1st resurrection. Over such 2nd death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a 1000 years

II. OT Expectation Dan 12:2 they that sleep in the dust shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt

3 they that wise shall shine/glory as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever

Dan 7:9 Ancient of Days 13 watching...One like the Son of Man, coming w/ clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days... brought Him near before Him. 14 To Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed. 22...judgment was made in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the time came for the saints to possess the kingdom.

NT expectation Jn 11:24 Martha said to Him: I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.  25 Jesus said to her,

"I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, tho he may die, he shall live.  26 whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?" 27 She said:Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ/Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world

Lk 14:14 And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you; for you shall be repaid at the resurrection of the just.

Lk 20:35 But those who are counted worthy to attain that age, and the resurrection from the dead... (cf Phil 3:11 may attain)

Acts 4:33 w/ great power apostles gave witness to resurrection of the Lord Jesus 17:18 he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection 24:15 I have hope in God, which they themselves also accept, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust

1Pt 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who acc to His abundant mercy/hesed has begotten us again to a living hope thru/(dia – the ground/reason/channel of an act) the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead 4 to an inheritance...

1Cor 15:12 Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. 14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. 17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! (Bogus religion and teachers)

2Tim 2:18 have strayed re the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some (no +/- payback)

III. Basis of Life Rm 1:4 defined to be the Son of God w/ power, acc to the Spirit of holiness, by/ek source-gen  the resurrection from the dead

Jn 5:21 For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will. 22 Father has committed all judgment to the Son, 23 that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. 24 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes Him who sent Me

has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life (Jn 3:16)

26 as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, (author of life Jesus=creator+sustainer (cf 1:3) 27 and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man. (Dan 7)  28 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forth --- those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. 30 I can of Myself do nothing (Phil 2 emptied Self)

As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent me.

Jn 5:36 But I have a greater witness than John's; for the works which the Father has given Me to accomplish/telios --- the very works that I do --- bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me. 37 And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form. (Jn 1:18 no one seen God)  38 But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe. 39 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. (Isa 53; Ps 16, etc) 40 But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.

Jn 5:45 Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; there is one who accuses you --- Moses, in whom you trust. 46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me. 47 But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?

Jn 6:38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

Jn 8:23 You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. 24 Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.  5:41 I do not receive honor from men. 42 But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you. 43 I have come in My Father's name, and you do not receive/accept Me... 44 How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God? (Rm 2:6-10 seek?)

IV. Believe & Follow Jn 8:32 I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.

1:4 In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness does not grasp it.

Isa 9:2 Those walked in darkness..dwelt in the shadow of death, upon them a Light has shined  (Mt 4:16-17 repent Kingdom at hand)

Rm 6:5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection

Phil 3:10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,                                                                                                11 if, by any means, I may attain to the (+) resurrection from the dead.

1Cor 15:58 ? brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord
