Jude, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, and/de brother of James,  pft = past action with result in present

To those sanctified/cx-loved/beloved pft ptc by God the Father, and preserved pft ptc by/in Jesus Christ:

I. Our identity as faithful followers of Christ should be that of saint, servant, and member of His family.

II. God the Father sets believers apart (holy/saint/sanctify) from worldlings when they are born again Eph 1:13 believe-seal; Phil 2:13 HS

Acts 26:18  To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in Me.     Acts 20:32 Brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified

Rm 1:5 received grace & apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His namesake 6 among whom you also are

the called of Jesus Christ 7 To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints 1Cor 1:2 sanctified in JC, called to be saints

Rm 8:28 He works all things together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called acc to His purpose (glorify faithful)

Rm 15:16  ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

A. He continues that sanctifying work thru the Word and HS (cf Rm 8:13), so we can have a rlshp with Him

and be conformed to the image of Christ Rm 8:29 , and thus share in His glory (eternal life) Rm 8:17; Heb 2:10.

Jn 17:17 Sanctify them thru your truth: your word is truth 19 for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified thru the truth 1Pt 1:13

2Thess 2:13..beloved by the Lord, 'cs God from the beginning chose you for salvation thru sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

1Pt 1:2 elect acc to the foreknowledge of God Father, by sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ

B. Holiness (separation from ourselves, carnality, satan's world system/culture) is necessary to see/fllshp with God and enjoy His blessings.

Mt 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Heb 12:14 pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: 15 looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness...cause trouble, and many become defiled

1Jn 1: 3 heard we declare to you, that you also may have fllshp with us...Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.4 that your joy may be full.

5 God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fllshp w/ Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fllshp with one another, and the blood of Jesus cleanses from sin. 9 confess

III. Jesus preserves those who respond to “the call” to be/become holy like He is, so we can fllshp (have in common-share nature) with Him

1Pt 1:15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 'cs it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy." 17 And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges acc to each one's work, conduct yourselves thru the time of your stay here in fear;

2Pt 1:2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in/by the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, thru the knowledge of Him who called us to glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that thru these you may be partakers of the divine nature, (cf Jn 15 vine-branches) having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue....love 8 not unfruitful 9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. 10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

1Th 5:23 God...sanctify you wholly...whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2Tim 2:21 purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel for honor, sanctified and fit for the Master’s use, and prepared for every good work

Heb 10:10  By His will we are sanctified thru the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 14 by one offering he has perfected for ever them that are sanctified pres pass  29 counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified an unholy thing

1Pt 1:4 His mercy...born again...to a living hope thru the resurrection of JC 4 to an inheritance incorruptible undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are kept by the power of God thru faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time

Jude 1:20 building Ac 20:28 yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy/hesed of our Lord Jesus Christ eis eternal life. 24 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy...

Rev 3:10 'cs you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.11 I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown

Questions for Reflection/Discussion/Response:

1. Are all believers holy, sanctified saints? (in what sense?). If a Christian isn't like Christ does that mean their sins aren't forgiven?

2. Why do some think/teach that God doesn't require our diligent effort to receive His reward/blessings/benefits. (Grace is power 2Cor 12:9)

3. How does obedience to God's Revelation/Word figure into the Christian life? Why do many miss out on the fllshp of John 14:21?

4. How does knowing and believing God change your life? How do you deepen your knowledge of and relationship with God?

5. How does Jude 1:20-21 work in your life? What happens if you don't know, understand and do it? Ditto 2Pt 1:2-10?
