Ps 2 The Laughing Angry God  © 2015 WF Cobb Truthbase.net DailyTruthbase.Blogspot.com

I. Satan incites people to fruitlessly join together to meditate on rebelling against God's authority in their lives

1 Why do the nations rage, and the people plot/imagine 1:2 a vain thing? Acts 4:25; 13:33; Heb 1:5; 5:5

2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against His Anointed 1Sam 16, saying

3 "Let us break piel their bonds in pieces and cast away hiphil their cords from us."  Isa 14:14 Satan leads rebels

Pr 11:21 Though they join forces, the wicked will not go unpunished; but the posterity of the righteous will be delivered.

II. God mocks the mockers and will devastatingly destroy those who displease Him, yet will establish His chosen

4 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision 1:1.  Ps 11:4; 37:13; 59:8; Pr 1:26

5 Then He shall speak/promisepiel to them in His wrath, and distress piel them in His deep displeasure: Ex 32; Dt 32; Nah 1; Rev

6 "Yet I have set/installed My King on My holy hill of Zion."

Heb 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

III. God establishes His leadership to obliterate the rebels and inherit His blessings

7 "I will declare piel the decree: The LORD has said to Me, ' You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. Ac 4:25; 13:33; Heb 4:7

2Sam 7:14  I will be his father, and he shall be my son.

8 Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession.

9 You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash piel them to pieces like a potter's vessel.' " Rev 2:27; 12:5; 19:15

Rev 2:27 ' He shall rule them with a rod of iron; They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter's vessels'  as I also have received from My Father;

IV. The wise humbly submit and serve in fear, joy, and trust, and are blessed as a result (instead of perishing)

10 Now therefore, be wise hiph, O kings; be chastened/instructed, you judges of the earth.

11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Dt 6:12-15; Heb 12:25,28-29

12a Kiss piel the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way 1:6, when His wrath is kindled but a little.
Ex 18:7; Dt 9:20; 1Kg 11:9  19:18; Hos 13:2; Ps 72:9; Isa 49:23

12b Blessed 1:1 are all those who put their trust in Him.

Ps 5:10 Pronounce them guilty, O God! Let them fall by their own counsels; Cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions, For they have rebelled against You.  11 But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You. 7:1; 11:1; 16:1; 17:7, etc.

Questions for Reflection/Discussion/Response:
1. Why Ps 2? How does an understanding of the arrangement of the Psalms (esp link w/ Ps 1 and followed by 3-5,) elucidate Ps 2?
2. Why do people rebel? Why did Adam and Eve rebel against a perfect parent in paradise? Why did Israel rebel? Why do we (sometimes)?
3. Does God's wrath motivate you/most believers? Do people respond more to God's love or wrath? What motivation does God use more?
4. How would you rate your “service” of God acc to Ps 2:11? How would God evaluate you? What does rejoicing have to do with it?
5. What does trust have to do with the Psalm and getting blessed? Exactly what are you trusting in? How do you demonstrate/prove it?
